6 Ways to Prepare for Summer | On Mountain NZ

6 Ways to Prepare for Summer | On Mountain NZ

The clocks have changed, the days are getting warmer and the evenings lighter.  While some of us will mourn the loss of the white stuff, the rest of us are celebrating - summer fun on its way! If you are dreaming of spending your summer outdoors, whether that’s in the mountains, hiking, tramping or camping, here are 6 fun ways to prepare and ensure you get the most out of the coming months.

Go through your closet

There’s nothing quite like changing seasons to make you feel like a major closet purge. And let’s face it – it’s been a few months since you last wore your summer clothes. Remember that summer isn’t all about sundresses, sunhats and sunglasses. It’s also a good time to check your outerwear – have you got a good waterproof jacket for those wet days? Is it still waterproof? What about shoes?  Do you need a comfortable lightweight pair for summer walks? You will find a great range of footwear for all types of adventures here at On Mountain.

Plan your trips

…and what you will need! Here comes the fun… it’s time to plan. Will you be camping in the Bay of Islands, exploring the Southern Alps, taking one of New Zealand’s Great Walks or travelling overseas? Whatever it is you will need to ensure you have the right outdoor clothing and equipment. Do you need a travel backpack like our Dr Duffel, carry-on luggage or even some camping equipment? What about hiking boots – do they still fit? Keep a look out for our blog for everything you need for your hiking trip, coming soon, but in the mean time have a browse of our brand new Bach Hiking packs and bags.

Get Your Sun Block!

DermatoneMineralStick
Did you know that you can burn with just 15 mins of sun exposure? It’s really not worth it. Plus, using suncream that’s over 3 years old is not going to cut it. It’s time to do a clear out and restock. Check your sun block has a factor 30SPF or above and is water resistant. If you are going to be spending any time swimming in lakes, rivers or the ocean, make sure you get a reef safe sun cream to protect our marine life. It’s also handy to have some lip protection, and a small face and lip sun block to stuff in your pocket. Our Dermatone line has everything you need - with water resistant, all natural mineral, and reef safe options. Check them out here

Sunglasses

Whether you are chilling on the beach or climbing mountains this summer, you will need to protect your eyes. When it comes to protection the answer is simple – quality lenses are essential to ensure both comfort and safety. When buying sunglasses look for scratch and impact resistance lenses, superior UV and blue light protection. If you need some help with which style will suit your face, check out our blog! And if you are enjoying some outdoor adventures or even planning to spend some time on the water, you might want to grab a pair of sunglass retainers while you are at it. Check them out here...

Drink water

So really you should be doing this all year round, but staying hydrated in the summer months is especially important!  You can start preparing your body by drinking more now. You should be drinking around 3 litres a day. If you are exercising you will need more. And if you are planning on hiking ensure your backpack has plenty of space to easily store and access your water!

Don’t forget the summer playlist

At the end of a day of adventures, there is seriously nothing like a BBQ, a cold beer and that summer playlist! So get planning…
At On Mountain NZ we are fizzing for some summer adventures! We are also pretty excited to be able to offer you a great range of products to ensure you have a great time! If you need any help or advice (excluding the summer playlist), feel free to give us a call, or message us on our live chat in the bottom right of the screen.
